Popular Entertainment Studies vol. 1 no 2 has now been published. The issue can be accessed at: www.newcastle.edu.au/journal/popular-entertainment-studies/ and needs no login or registration.
It contains a cornucopia of fascinating research and comment: from circus music and its significance starting in the early 19th century in England, America and Australia, the talking and singing clowns of the 19th century American circus, popular music and subversiveness in Argentina, to karaoke performance, slapstick comedy and the spectacle of bleeding in professional wrestling and football. There are also a couple of delightful excursions into some of the byways of popular entertainments by Laurence Senelick and Joseph Donohue.
